Job Description

The Underwriter’s primary responsibility is to underwrite individual risks. 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Underwriter will manage approximately a $6M to $7M book of commercial business. Lines of business include Property, Boiler & Machinery, Inland Marine, and Ocean Cargo. Duties will include underwriting and servicing accounts based on Chubb guidelines. Must develop strong relationship with assigned agents in order to manage our rate strategies and positively impact retention and profitability. Must develop strong branch communication and maintain UC to branch alignment. Must be able to travel to territories to develop agency relationships. 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Achieve favorable rate, retention, and profitability results and monitor/track those results using CMR and MIS reports. 
  • Account rounding and Prospecting.
  • Servicing accounts (internally/externally) based on Chubb Underwriting Center guidelines.
  • Complete management of Standardized Tools and Inventory Management for communication with the processing center.
  • Develop strong marketing relationship with the agent and all branch personnel in order to successfully manage the business. Business travel (1-3 times annually) may be required. 
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Candidate must have proven ability to successfully negotiate and develop strong producer relationships. 
  • Proven track record of service orientation is required. 
  • Knowledge of marketing principles, underwriting, and pricing strategies.
  • The aptitude to attract and retain profitable business is essential.
  • A solid background in risk analysis is essential. 
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Candidate must have very strong Time and Desk Management skills in conjunction with good organizational skills.
  • The ability to work independently and cohesively in a team environment. This would also include EUC Leadership, OSD staff, and field management/underwriters.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment is crucial.
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively use all related systems.
  • Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Solicits new and renewal submissions from brokers  
  • Determines terms and conditions and complex rating plans  
  • Binds coverage  
  • Documents the underwriting files  
  • Handles more complex files and portfolios within underwriting authority

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years underwriting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
