Job Description

The USB NBS Manager is responsible for the achievement of new business growth in the Private Not For Profit group space for Financial Lines. The NBS team is a strategic growth engine that partners with all US field offices to drive new business production and development of producer relationships. NBS is a fast-paced and high volume environment that is involved in many of the Small Commercial and Commercial Insurance growth initiatives for Financial Lines including DecisionPoint. NBS Team will see over 45,000 submissions and write over $21m in new business in 2018.  NBS Manager oversees the strategic and tactical leadership for a team of 11 direct report underwriters and one Team Leader with three direct reports.

This position reports into SVP Financial Lines USB Manager. 

Key responsibilities and competencies include:

•         Experienced Financial Lines underwriter with advanced level of authority.

•         Proven team leadership and people management skills including the ability to motivate staff and inspire a sense of urgency about achieving organizational objectives.

•         Visible and credible business partner across the organization.  Key relationships with home office and branch colleagues in place.

•         Demonstrated proficiency in performance management skills.  Includes communicating clear objectives and holding individuals and team accountable for achieving results along with coaching and supporting development opportunities to enhance staff effectiveness.

•         Proven new business track record and proven ability to develop and grow producer relationships.  Able to anticipate and adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities.

•         Demonstrated financial and analytical skills with the proven ability to make expedient and sound decisions.

•         Strong track record in delivering timely quality service to internal and external customers.

•         Demonstrated success in negotiation and building collaborative relationships.

•         Strong critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.

•         Ability to sell and negotiate to achieve bottom line profitability.

•         Proficiency in Financial Lines product, technology and automated processes.

•         Conducts underwriting audits and provides guidance on exception underwriting as appropriate.


•         Bachelor’s Degree in finance or business is preferred.

•         Professional designations not a requirement but preferred.
