Global Risk Systems – System Architect
Description
Chubb Global Risk Systems IT has an opening for a System Architect.  The GRS System Architect is responsible for the design, development and implementation of geospatial and risk evaluation systems within the Catastrophe Management portfolio.  The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, evaluating existing design and planning to ensure that performance and scalability are aligned with the company’s strategic goals.  The candidate must have strong technical experience along with the aptitude to develop an understanding of complex enterprise systems with ease. Prior experience in the insurance industry is preferred.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires a technologist who is an exceptionally analytical and results oriented software developer with a passion for modern technologies, an appreciation for highly complex applications, and a desire to work in a highly collaborative development environment as part of a global team.
Overall responsibilities include all aspects of application development, support and implementation, including requirements analysis, project sizing and estimation, high level and detailed design, coding, testing, deploy strategy and contingency management. The candidate is expected to be a subject matter expert on the solution, technologies used, and underlying architecture. The candidate must be a strong leader with the ability to lead and mentor the development team.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the development team and implement best practices.
  • Analyze requirements provided by the Product Owner/Business Analysis team members and estimate effort for project management.
  • Lead the effort to design, implement, and deploy solutions for  highly complex internal insurance applications, including contingency management and development of back-out strategies
  • Ensure that systems comply with Chubb’s security, regulatory, and disaster recovery principles.
  • Quickly master unfamiliar technologies and vendor APIs, understand how the components interact and fit into the overall system, and move fluidly between various technologies to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with team members to effectively transfer knowledge through pair programming, design workshops, and code reviews
  • Ability to multi-task and practice good time management skills, both individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent scoping, estimation, software testing and quality assurance experience
  • Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation
  • Demonstrate an attention to security design and implementation of best practices
  • Experience conducting technology, trends, standards and products research
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 
  • 7+  years of experience designing and developing Java applications using JSF, JSP, JSTL, MDB, JDBC, JEE Security, JUL, JUnit, JavaScript, DOJO, AJAX, JSON and XML.
  • Experience with MQ and web service integration (SOAP, REST, JSON, XML).
  • Experience with Rational Application Developer and WebSphere Application Server preferred.
  • 5+ years Oracle development experience, including PL/SQL, ST_geometry or SDO, running and interpreting Explain Plan, and familiarity with SQL Developer.
  • Experience with ArcGIS or similar geospatial technology, including development of spatial queries against an enterprise geospatial database (ST_Geometry preferred).
  • Strong background in thin client architecture, object-oriented design and design patterns, service-oriented architecture, data structures, business intelligence and GIS concepts.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be organized, detail oriented and have a strong commitment towards the delivery of high quality products
  • Experience with WebFOCUS reporting technology preferred.

  • Developing and documenting components, libraries, and APIs to be used by other developers
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
