SVP, Construction Surety

 

Overall Description:

Assist and support Head of Construction Surety in achieving strategic goals and financial targets, (ensuring strong revenue growth based on market conditions and credit terms) while keeping Surety Senior Management informed on all pertinent matters.


Underwriting/Credit Management:


•      Ensure accounts meet Chubb Surety standards for risk review and selection, pricing and appropriate commissions


•      Actively engage in managing the successful execution of the dual underwriting system; be actively engaged in the process


•      Continue to assess whether or not individual accounts fit the preferred account characteristics of the department, e.g., active supervision of staff’s underwriting activities


•      Take prompt and decisive action to resolve any underwriting issue which affects the status of an account, service authorization, or bond request. Involve managers/peers when and how appropriate


•      Support Surety Branch Underwriting Managers in managing agency and customer relationships to achieve maximum benefit to the underwriting process; assist, monitor and direct the performance of each agent to ensure compliance with our procedures and authority levels


•      Manage PML exposure within department guidelines/service authorization


•      Work with employees at all levels and from all areas of Chubb to facilitate achieving the overall/general goals of the company


•      Supports other underwriting departments with referrals and accommodation requests in a manner which takes into account Chubb’s business objectives

•      Create a vision by participating in the development of the long-term strategy for the Surety Business Unit; communicate the strategy effectively


•      Obtain results by encouraging high level contributions from branch and home office staff in order to achieve Surety’s desired results

•      Ensure that each team member knows his/her role within the operation of the department and the objectives of the Business Plan


•      Develop a plan for each team member’s development, i.e., which addresses strengths, weaknesses, potential and training needs

Operations/Services:


•      Actively participates in the management of the Surety Business Unit


•      Conduct Surety Zone operations with a high degree of efficiency and cost effectiveness, to maximize long-term growth and profitability


•      Support in establishing, communicating, and executing Surety Business Unit goals and strategies


•      Use travel and promotional expenses for maximum effect


•      Manage rates, premiums, commissions and expenses for cost effectiveness and compliance with budgets, guidance and strategies to reach ROE objectives without sacrificing the ability to retain business


•      Develop and promote methods of improving cost structure


•      Manage book of business with a view toward maximizing overall profitability of Surety operations


•      Monitor and maintain service standards of branch and home office staff that is perceived as a competitive advantage by the marketplace and meets department standards


•      Establish and implement policies and procedures which ensure exceptional service in meeting the needs of Chubb Surety branches, accounts and agents; assess what those needs are, the willingness and ability of branches/staff/agents to meet those needs, and design specific solutions when appropriate


•      Management Surety HO operations to meet standards of completeness and promptness of submissions and responses within the dual underwriting process


Competencies/Skills:


•      Senior level leader with experience running a large business unit


•      Ability to drive collaboration between field and home office while aggressively pushing ideas and plans through the surety platform and the larger Chubb organization


•      Broad understanding of all industry issues, products, distribution, regulatory oversight and compliance


•      Strong producer and management skills are required along with the ability to develop and manage a cohesive marketing and service strategy to drive business results


•      Strong financial, analytical, problem-solving, sales and marketing skills with a background in underwriting required


•      Strong track record of success in leading, coaching and developing people


•      Ability to maintain an environment that leverages diverse perspectives and engages all members of the team


•      Proven track record of building relationships and collaborating with branch managers, zone officers and other SBU leaders, and have a broad knowledge of the Chubb organization


•      Able to demonstrate leadership effectively and advanced proficiency for universal competencies including a track record of results achievement, customer development, people development, collaboration, teamwork, problem solving, communication and negotiation skills
