Job Title:   Senior Excess Workers’ Compensation Claims Specialist 

Location:  Position can be based anywhere Chubb has an office

Position Summary Focus Statement:

Responsible for the oversight of WC Excess claims handled by an underlying TPA and/or Self-Insured Account. Perform assignments, tasks or activities that contribute to the overall business objectives of the corporation and department. Maintain proactive management of WC Excess claims by focusing efforts towards expedient and equitable resolutions and reserving claims to reflect CHUBB’s financial exposure.

  • Handle and oversee approximately 260 WC Excess claims
  • Be familiar with the terms and conditions of the WC Excess policy language which dictates the Excess carrier’s rights and obligations
  • Establish strong relationships with underlying TPAs/Self-Insured Accounts to ensure CHUBB’s  reporting guidelines are followed and prepare reservation of rights letters as needed
  • Completion of on-site claim reviews -  10% travel
  • Evaluate and set initial stat reserves with 90 day follow up until full exposure can be established
  • Ensure recovery opportunities are investigated, explored and pursued
  • Review and provide necessary oversight on new assignments; provide specific, consistent direction and expectations to the underlying TPA/Self Insured Account in writing and ensure timely follow up
  • Make excess claim reimbursements upon receipt of sufficient documentation
  • Exhibit effective communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to be capable of dealing with self-insureds and/or third party administrators in a 
  • positive manner concerning losses
  • Maintain active diaries all open files so that each file reflects a plan of action with a focus on reserving, documentation, evaluation and settlement
  • Complete and prepare timely reports/projects for senior management
  • Demonstrate skills in the following competencies: Adaptability, Problem Solving, Results Orientation, Initiative, Learning Orientation, and Values Orientation
  • Complete individual developmental plans throughout the year
  •  Minimum 5 to 7 years of WC claims experience
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent business experience
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices & procedures
  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills, negotiation skills and influence management skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as operate effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive approach
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Insurance courses a plus
