Sr. Catastrophe Analyst – North America Commercial Lines

Position Description

Senior Catastrophe Modeling Analyst to support the business needs of the North American Commercial Retail Lines of Business.

Major Responsibilities:

• Take a senior lead position as a Cat Modeling Analyst for the Commercial Retail Catastrophe Management Team, consisting of 30 onshore and offshore individuals.
• Build and maintain partner relationships with each business unit’s management team and their underwriters. Promote Catastrophe Risk Management’s role in the company’s business strategy.
• Interpret complex sets of insurance exposure data and results for individual accounts and make proactive recommendations to the underwriters and business units for accurate modeling and capital allocation representation of the risks in the portfolio.
• Conduct portfolio aggregations and review and present summary information for internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform complex catastrophe modeling independently. Analyze and recommend enhancements to modeling processes.
• Prepare and present independent insight and commentary on modeling summary narratives and other deliverables.
• Work with business stakeholders and other modeling staff to create and provide value added insights into the business unit’s portfolio of risks.
• Learn the proprietary internal software systems and understand how they work within the cat modeling process.
• Provide data analytics expertise, problem solving and advice, based on past modeling experience, to internal and external customers.
• Analyze, develop, and advocate for the implementation of process improvement tactics based on current technical and industry trends.
• Act as thought leader and mentoring resource for junior analysts where appropriate.
• Complete ad-hoc requests as required.

Competencies/Technical Skills:

• Advanced aptitude with RMS and/or AIR catastrophe models.
• Advanced aptitude with large complex data sets.
• Ability to operate independently, with minimal supervision, under tight timelines, and as a member of a high functioning team.
• Critical thinking and analytical skills required.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, particularly email, and the ability to document and present findings to management clearly and concisely.
• Ability to prioritize work across multiple accounts.
• Knowledge of Excel and an ability to manipulate and format large data sets in a timely manner.
• Expertise and experience with SQL.
• 10 years of relevant industry experience.
