Job Description

As a financial lines law firm underwriter, you will contribute to the achievements of financial lines goals as well as corporate goals related to new business acquisition, renewal retention, underwriting expertise, service and producer/client management in the law firm segment. The financial lines law firm underwriter will be responsible for new and renewal business for an assigned geography and will include professional D&O, EPL ABA, Crime, Fiduciary, and K&R coverages.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

•      Maintain renewal book by analyzing account specific information and applying underwriting expertise to develop and implement a renewal strategy for assigned accounts.

•      Provide mid-term service to assigned book of business, effectively responding to requests throughout the policy cycle.

•       Acquire new business through new account acquisition and rounding existing customer coverage.  This will include prospect development and management, strong collaboration with assigned retail branch colleagues, and limited travel to key agents.

•       Responsible for maintaining complete electronic file integrity for the renewal of each account, including compliance related documentation.

•       Maintain strong relationships with agents and brokers, providing expertise and excellence in service to be considered as the carrier of choice for law firm financial lines products.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•       Excellent verbal and written skills, and an ability to articulate clearly and concisely.

•       Advanced knowledge of underwriting principles and policy forms.

•       Ability to demonstrate strong business acumen, financial and analytical skills, and critical thinking skills which lead to confident decision making and judgment.

•       Demonstrated success in negotiation and building collaborative relationships.

•       Proven multi-tasking, prioritizing and time management skills.

•       Able to appropriately balance changing priorities based upon underwriting needs and perform within time constraints with a high volume of work.

•       Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites as well as other business related software.


Education and Experience:
Previous underwriting experience required.  College degree highly preferred.
