Position Description

Based in Whitehouse Station, NJ and a member of the senior team of the North America Office of General Counsel this position will require strong leadership and operational experience.  This individual will oversee and manage services in coordination with all North American business lines associated with creating and gaining regulatory approval of all new/changed products, rates and associated filings.  This position includes accountability for product line support from product development through filings preparation, State Filings, and deployment.  The individual will also manage the review of all circulars, new laws and regulations, and criticisms from state regulators and industry associations.  This division of North America OGC is expected to assist business units with product changes and implementation including areas where personnel in Product Line Support Services develop system change requirements in tandem with IT.  Finally, this individual coordinates efforts and interactions with business units, General Counsel, Actuarial, IT, Marketing, and regulatory agencies throughout the process.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

•       Management and leadership of large multi-disciplinary team in multiple locations.

•       Develop and maintain operational excellence and efficient workflows in support of multiple product lines, IT, actuarial and finance.  Maintaining a constant improvement culture.

•       Oversee product development, form and rate submissions and approvals in accordance with internal and external standards (including state compliance requirements).  Participate in implementation of approved form and rate submissions.

•       Provides subject matter expertise regarding products and lines of business as appropriate.

•       Oversees State Filings activities and participation with industry associations including communications with regulators and trade associations as needed.

•       Supports requests for information and data in conjunction with response to state regulatory authorities.

Major Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements:

•       Strong knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry, including the product development process, regulatory procedures and interactions, and the state approval processes.

•       Knowledge of industry associations (for example, NCCI, ISO), roles, and operations; demonstrated effective personal working relationships.

•       Experience working in a product and rate filing and approval environment with explicit leadership/facilitation/coordination responsibilities and knowledge of the relationship to Underwriting, Actuarial, General Counsel, IT, and Claims.

•       Excellent communications skills; capable of interacting effectively with senior Underwriting managers, product leaders, regulators and representatives of trade associations.

•       Demonstrated track record in effective project management, managing shifting priorities, and coordinating efforts across organizational lines.

•       Strong people management skills and experience with demonstrated achievements in the areas of results, staff development, diversity and retention.

•       Good negotiation skills with ability to influence the priorities and actions of other people and departments.

•       Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to adjust to and lead teams through changing business priorities.
