Position Summary

Reporting to the Division President, the Chubb International Personal Lines Chief Underwriter Officer (CUO) is responsible for profitable growth of the Standard Auto and Residential lines of business for Chubb’s operations in Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Far East, overseeing $1 billion of gross written premium across developed and emerging insurance markets. The CUO works in close partnership with regional and local leaders to ensure top line and bottom line results meet operating and strategic plan objectives.
Job Functions
  • Provides leadership and guidance on product management and risk underwriting appetite to the regional underwriting and product management teams.
  • Oversees International Personal Lines Portfolio Management strategy and capabilities.
  • Manages global line of business heads of Auto, Residential, and Portfolio Management.
  • Responsible for managing and setting underwriting authority and guidelines for Auto and Residential lines of business for more than 200 underwriters around the world.
  •  Manages the portfolio towards an appropriate mix of business aligned with the business strategy.
  • Assess new product, new partnerships, and market expansion opportunities, and provides risk mitigation guidance and transaction structuring oversight.
  • Works collaboratively with distribution partners to develop new and innovative products and distribution strategies.  Interfaces directly with distribution intermediaries, when necessary.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations for reinsurance purchases that are placed for International Personal Lines.
  • Member of Chubb’s Companywide Property Board and Personal Lines Product Board.
  • Responsible for International Personal Lines Catastrophe Management strategy and monitoring.
  • Represents the business unit in the Catastrophe Management Committee.
  • Oversees International Personal Lines internal underwriting audit process.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of ten years of underwriting and product management experience to include a minimum of four years’ experience in a Senior Underwriting and /or product management position.
  • International experience across developed and emerging markets preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of auto and residential coverages and underwriting risk.
  • Understanding of P&L components and management.
  • Strong analytical abilities to grasp complex transactional structures and assess risk.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication and multi-tasking skills are necessary.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret policy documents and provide risk taking decisions with the necessary support for those decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and writing ability.
  • High level of personal accountability.
  • Degree in an analytical discipline such as mathematics, finance or actuarial science.
