The Boston Branch Technology Insurance Specialty (TIS) Department -- Chubb’s leading office world-wide for Technology and Life Science business -- is seeking an experienced multi-line P&C underwriting specialist in the Life Science industry segment.
As an underwriting specialist in our Life Science (LS) Industry Practice, you will help lead a team charged with maintaining and growing an industry-leading book of business that spans biopharmaceutical, medical device, and dietary supplement developers, manufacturers, distributors, and related service-providers; healthcare information technology firms; biorenewables companies; and federal government contractors.
Position Responsibilities
  • Support the financial performance of the Northeast (NE) Region’s Life Science book of business comprised of Property, General Liability, Product & Clinical Trial Liability, E&O & Cyber Liability, Umbrella, Auto, Worker’s Compensation and International coverages
  • Meet or exceed individual and team financial goals including growth, profit, rate, retention, and new business
  • Underwrite and manage a book of complex, multi-line LS accounts, inclusive of account solicitation, risk selection and analysis (including documentation), pricing and sales for new and existing LS customers
  • Build market-leading relationships with agency partners from across the Boston, New Haven, and Rochester branch territories while working to identify and develop the next generation of producers interested in the Life Science industry segment
  • Serve as referral resource and technical lead for a team of 5 LS underwriters in the Boston and New Haven branches as well as the underwriting team supporting NE Region LS business in the Eastern Underwriting Center
  • Actively support and deliver local training efforts to deepen LS underwriting acumen among NE LS underwriters and underwriting associates
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with an energetic and dynamic team of local and remote underwriting associates, loss control representatives, and claims examiners
  • Foster strong working relationships with regional and Home Office segment and product leadership
  • Meet with new and renewal customers and agents/brokers to negotiate coverage, price, financial terms and service delivery
  • Meet or exceed service standards
Required Skills
  • Minimum 10 years of Commercial P&C underwriting experience
  • Deep Life Science P&C underwriting expertise in property, premises & product liability, E&O, worker’s compensation, auto, umbrella, and international coverages
  • Proven track record of building strong business relationships with insureds, agents & brokers, industry associations and specialized service providers in order to enhance the Industry Practice’s reputation and drive business activity in the territory
  • Demonstrated ability to train and help develop colleagues of wide-ranging experience levels in technical Life Science underwriting disciplines
  • Strong skill demonstrated in complex account analysis, prioritization, organization, and detail orientation
  • Advanced proficiency in sales, marketing and negotiation of product line and additional services including Claims & Loss Control
  • Ability to work both independently and within a highly collaborative team environment using multiple internal and external resources appropriately and efficiently
  • Ability to perform comprehensive competitor analysis, including products, capabilities, appetites and strategies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software
Educational and Experiential Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of Commercial P&C underwriting experience with strong multi-line LS segment underwriting skills.
  • Senior Underwriting Specialist designation is preferred.
